The Design | Media Arts department offers M.F.A. and B.A. degrees in Design | Media Arts. With an outstanding faculty engaged in both research and creative work, it offers an undergraduate program focusing on visual communication design with an emphasis on digital media. Our uniquely challenging program invites students to balance aesthetic sensibility with logical reasoning, formal theories with practical application, and contemporary thought with historical perspective. The two-year Master of Fine Arts degree fosters mature, professional-quality work utilizing the most current technologies in the field of media. The exploration of communication in a digital format leads to new concepts and understanding.

A range of different graduate and undergraduate classes are taught each quarter covering topics such as interactive media, dynamic media, typography, video, 3D animation, and media history. Undergraduate classes build from basic skills to advanced manipulation of concept and form. Graduate classes focus on history, theory, and developing work for installations.
